Iquitos and The Amazon Basin

It's just the start of it, all the water which runs down the Andes forms this magnificent landscape, this humid breading place for so many animals and plants. It's not shelter, it's a harsh place where only the strongest survive. The Amazon rainforest starts where the city of Iquitos in Peru was formed years ago because of rubber tree plantations. These are some pics from that part of the world.

Iquitos is one of the largest cities in the world without a road to it. So you'll have to fly or take a boat. :) The city is isolated but it has some good energy. Everything is about the jungle and jungle tours.

The Plaza de Armas, I think all Peruvian cities have the main square called Plaza de Armas. :) Actually it's like this in Ecuador, and many other Latin America cities.

The Boulevard in front of one of the rivers forming the Amazon. People sit here play some music and chill out.

The main transportation device is the motocaro.

It's a place where cultures meet, both form inland, the west and from the jungle tribes. It's also a great place to explore the food on the markets.

A must are the jugos, cheap fresh fruit juice on every corner. Most of the fruits you've never seen.

Ceviche, a must, the best! Fresh raw fish, with lime juice and some corn, seaweed, sweet potato and spices!

It's one of the first places in my life where I saw so many friendships between animals and humans. And there's gonna be more.

If you go deeper into the markets you'll find some jaguar and anaconda skin, tortugas and caimans to eat. I don't eat them and I hate the idea cause you can find jaguar teeth and some strange illegal stuff too.

But there are people which sell everything for everything. So, if you'll need some love potion, Ayahuasca, San Pedro, or you have some pain or a sickness, or you just want to get high, there is a bottle for everything.

I forgot for what the left "snake head" potion is, but the right one is for making someone to love you.

When the market stops working the vultures eat everything what is left.

Natural cigarettes and tobacco, only for a strong lung. :)

The produced tobacco is also used in the Ayahuasca ceremonies (some Shaman ceremonies involving hallucinogenic sacred plants and tobacco).

And now a perfect love story, the little capuccini monkey Pepe came from the jungle, and this dog took care of him. Now they play together all day and sleep together in the evening. :)
