Playing the blues on Isla de Ometepe, Nicaragua

The Ometepe island is a special and weird place, with some strange energy but a lovely look. I would rather say strange energy cause of the volcanoes and the metal swirling around in them. But this is my theory. It's an island formed by two volcanoes, the Concepción and Maderas, rising from Lake Nicaragua in the Republic of Nicaragua. Its name derives from the Nahuatl words ome (two) and tepetl (mountain), meaning two mountains. It was a hangout place for pirates during the times of the conquest and later. They plundered the villagers and used their women. Now it's a perfect place to hang out, relax, do yoga or reiki, chill or climb the volcanoes.

"Just because you're naked
Doesn't mean your sexy.
Just because you're cynical
Doesn't mean you're cool.
You may tell the greatest lies
And wear a brilliant disguise
But you can't escape the eyes
Of the one who sees right through you.

In the end what will prevail
Is your passion not your tale,
For love is the Holy Grail,
Even in Cognito.

So better listen to me sister,
And pay close attention, mister;
It's very good to play the game,
Amuse the gods, avoid the pain.
But don't trust fortune, don't trust fame,
Your real self doesn't know your name,
And in that we're all the same,
We're all incognito."

So this is how we lived down there. Music and rum, yoga and meditation, food and some monkeys. Here are some little bits of the that island and life.

All the brands are available. :)

White headed capuchin monkey.

Strange but good salad, some cheese, arroz y frijoles.

I lived in a hammock..

..under mango trees.

Here we hang out..

Here we did yoga..

"I'm a little cute pineapple..find me.." :)

Here we hang out even more..

Our brother Kenny playing some music..he was working here in the "shop-bookstore-bar" hippie bus at Zopilote..we played many songs, drank loads of rum, awoke many old spirits and fought many wars..it was good times at the island..

The "shop-bookstore-bar" hippie bus..

The lake..

My friend visited me at my hammock at night..a Tarantula..

Climbing up the big volcano Concepción..usually there is nothing special up a volcano, only if your are lucky with the weather and clouds and so on..but the lush green vegetation at the beginning is the best always..

Close to the summit..visibility, not the best..

At the crater..this is the summit..visibility again crap..everything smells like sulphur.. :) Well, there are really good volcanoes at Central America where you can grill marshmallows at the rocks and stuff.. Here we where not so lucky..

Watching the game Real Madrid with Atletico Madrid in a local bar.. :)

Actually the best chocolate I ever tried. Fresh roasted cacao beans, still warm and yummy.

Hippies and treehuggers. Hitting the road. :)

In the last truck drive from the pic before, the driver was driving like a crazy person and I fell on my ukulele. This are the local carpenters repairing it. The old man was happy cause he took a sketch from it and will make his own ukulele. :)

Locals doing some laundry.
